GENDER EQUALITY OR GENDER EQUITY?

The issue of gender equality is an all too common one in this century of well educated women all around the world but most especially in Africa. The past couple years between the up-rise of women like Chimamanda Adichie and Beyonce  who have made the world know their stand on being independent women willing to do and be whatever they want without fear of what other people think about their decisions and actions, there has been an influx of other young women who are equally motivated to be independent. That i applaud.
But amongst these women there are those who are totally misguided and do not understand what it means to be a feminist or to fight for the woman's right.
Feminism is a range of movements (ideological, social, political) with a goal; to achieve equal political, personal, social, economic and educational rights for women. It is not an excuse for women to be saucy, narcissistic or uncultured. (especially the African woman) we  have a reputation as women of wisdom, culture and substance. Being a feminist should in no way take that away.
That said, Every woman has a right to as many opportunities as are available to any man, we are people too. with even more distinct qualities. we deserve the right to be political rulers, we deserve to be religious leaders, we deserve education and employment opportunities because believe it or not women are more passionate and dedicated to whatever we put our minds to and no one should be permitted to rub us of our rights simply because we bleed a couple of days every month and they perceive us as weaker. (keep in mind one man's weakness is another man's strength).
Women;
we are not the same as the men, never have been, never will be. Both human but totally different. we bleed every month, we get cramps,we get pregnant, we breastfeed. we are nurturers by nature. therefore our needs are quite different from that of the man. We need maternity leaves from work, we need a day or so off for cramps. If we keep fighting for gender equality without really understanding it we lose these little normal exceptions. In a perfectly gender equalized society you do not get maternity leave, you get off work and head straight to the labor room to have a baby, in the home situation, there's a 50/50 split of monetary requirements and home chores. your husband doesn't get to be the only one cutting the grass around the house anymore, or changing the lightbulb or switching on the generator and doing all the heavy lifting, you also do all of these. I don't know about other ladies but personally i don't think i'm willing to be the head figure of my family or to let my husband cook n bath my kids everyday (we all know how careful men can be). All things considered shouldn't we be fighting for gender equity?
A world where allocation of resources and decision making goes fairly to men and women without discrimination based on sex but on intellect, experience and capability. Gender equity requires that both women and men be provided with opportunities that meet their DISTINCTIVE needs and interests. political, social or educational.
There are certain things we cannot fight God has made us the way we are. We are women full of compassion, full of love and most importantly so much wisdom. embrace it and fight right.

so. GENDER EQUALITY OR GENDER EQUITY ??
